Samal Island is part of the Metropolitan Davao area. Its official name is the Island Garden City of Samal. The area is made up of Samal Island and the smaller Talikud Island in the Davao Gulf. Samal is the largest resort city in the country. It has amazing beaches and houses many beautiful beach resorts.  One of the most popular of these resorts is the Pearl Farm Beach Resort, owned by Ms. Universe 1973 Margie Moran.

While the place can be visited for a day trip, it can really be enjoyed if you stay in the place for 2 to three days depending on your budget of course.

I had visited Samal Island twice already. I usually visit the island for the Maxima Aqua Fun, especially their water giant slide.  But on my recent visit, I also had a side trip to Hagimit Falls and Monfort Bat Sanctuary.

Montfort Bat Sanctuary has been the home of a large colony of 1.8 million Rousette fruit bats since recorded history. They cover 75% of the ceilings and walls of their 245 ft (75 m)-long cave. The Monfort Bat Sanctuary is the largest single colony of this kind according to Guinness World Records.

How to get to Samal Island, Davao

If you are coming from another country, Davao City can be accessed via its international airport. If you are coming from Metro Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, you can take a flight to Davao City.

From Davao City, you can take a ferry to Samal Island. The easiest way is to take a taxi and ask the driver to bring you to the port. Some resorts offer private transportation for their guests.

The moment you arrive at the island, you can take a Habal-habal to take you to your resort. The Habal-Habal can carry up to 2 passengers. There are also jeepneys servicing the Island, just ask around. If you are staying on the Island for just a day, it would be best to hire a habal-habal especially if you are traveling or with a companion.
