About the Kaamulan Festival

Kaamulan Festival is an ethnic festival held in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon Province in the Northern Mindanao Region. The word “Kaamulan” is from the Binukid term “amul” meaning “to gather”. Kaamulan Festival is the assembly of Bukidnon tribesmen for various purposes. The purpose varies from a datuship ceremony, a wedding ritual, a celebration of a great harvest, a peace settlement, etc.

The Kaamulan Festival is such a unique event that highlights the indigenous culture of the Bukidnons. Kaamulan Festival is a form of honoring the custom and traditions of the 7 original tribal groups that occupy Bukidnon. These 7 tribal groups include the Bukidnon, Higaonon, Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon and Umayamnon.

During the festivities, guests and tourists will see various tribesmen coming from these seven hill tribes of Bukidnon come in unity with other locals and visitors of the place. These tribesmen wear their traditional costumes and fully decorated with their classic jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, anklets, leaflets, headdresses as well as amulets.

Just like in any other festival, one of the highlights of the Kaamulan Festival is the ethnic street and arena dance competition.
