SORSOGON, PHILIPPINES: TOURIST SPOTS AND TRAVEL GUIDE
Contents
The southernmost province in Luzon, Sorsogon is part of the Bicol Region. Bordering the province of Albay to the north is the province’s capital, Sorsogon City.
Before we list down a number of beautiful places that are endemic in this particular region of the region, let us be candid to admit that this province is obscure for many tourists.
Being set in a geographical location where some of the best tourist destinations in the country may lie, it is not that hard to imagine how overshadowed any neighboring place can be, such as Sorsogon.
But with a little bit of attention and the right know-how where to look, you will find the most rustic locale of Sorsogon as a haven for nature’s bizarre and untouched beauty as seen through its various panoramic views.
SORSOGON, PHILIPPINES TOURIST SPOTS
Here are the places you would be missing out if you choose to overlook this province as part of your next tourist destination:
FISHING VILLAGE OF DONSOL
Like most fishing villages, Donsol is not a stray far when it comes to its liveliness: it is so tranquil, it can be easily described as sleepy. But it is not the settlement itself that is the point of the visit to this serene place, but something else.
Those who had the privilege to visit the place were actually after the rare chance of diving and swimming with the gargantuan “butanding” or whale shark.
MANTA BOWL
Nestled between Donsol and Ticao Island, the Manta Bowl is yet another prominent diving site in all of Sorsogon as known for its burgeoning colony of manta rays.
In fact, you would not be able to find such a dense concentration of this aquatic species elsewhere in the country that Manta Bowl itself bears the label as Manta-Ray Capital of the Philippines.

BUHATAN RIVER ECO-ADVENTURE
One exciting thing to do when visiting Sorsogon is the Buhatan River Eco-Adventure. One can explore the place while kayaking or hop in a floating cottage while enjoying their gastronomic offering and traversing the five (5) kilometer river beginning from a local tourism post down to Sorsogon Bay Area.
Firefly watching is also a must-do activity with the night cruise offered by the place.
PAGURIRAN LAGOON
With only knee-deep of clear water in a rather small enclosure, there is not much about the Paguriran lagoon to offer for the divers and swimming enthusiasts.
However, the real benefit of being in this place is in seeing the unique rock formations that separate it from the seawater backdrop at a high elevation which is truly a marvel if you are viewing it first-hand.
With its shallow waters, this small body of water makes for an ideal playground for kids and a perfect spot to taking vivid quality images or videos to commemorate the overall experience.
Mt. Bulusan National Park [ Sorsogon Tourist Spots | Philippines ]
MT. BULUSAN NATIONAL PARK
Bulusan is among the three active volcanoes that are situated in the Bicol region.
Although looking at the towering volcano is already a sight to behold from afar, visiting the volcano itself at its heart—where the national park and the Bulusan lake, with its verdant waters, is situated—is a venture worth taking.
But for the real adventurers who are not satisfied in not being able to conquer the slumbering volcano, climbing it up to the top poses a definite thrill.
SUBIC MATNOG BEACH
You think you might have seen all the shores in the world but wait until you reach the beach on Calintaan Island—Subic Matnog Beach—for its pinkish-white sands, the like you may not have seen before.
While you may spend countless hours mesmerized in this uniquely-colored sand of the coast, others would normally choose to snorkel in its water and even build a camp in the place.

BARCELONA CHURCH
Not only for the Catholics, but I guess one must see the St. Joseph Church is also known as Barcelona Church because of its historical merits and architectural value.
Constructed in 1875, St. Joseph Church is located in the town proper of Barcelona. The very old church building is one of the most well-preserved churches in the region. It has an underground tunnel but is now closed.
The aged majestic stone walls of the church and its bell tower remained intact and well preserved. Some ruins can also be found outside the church which includes a schoolhouse and a stone fort.

BATO LIMESTONE CAVE
The Bato limestone Cave is a privately owned property approximately 100 m. away from the intersection along the Sawanga-Bacon road. The Bato Limestone Cave is home to three (3) Caves, 2 of which were used to be a burial ground while the other 1 is habitable. In 1956 an Archeological group discovered some artifacts estimated to be 2,000 years old. These artifacts include seashells, beads, shell drinking cups, and human bones.
