Picture this: it was the end of a long day, and my friend CG Hisona and I found ourselves famished. We quickly hatched a plan to satisfy our hunger pangs and invited our dear friend Lei Lani Dusaban, who had just successfully defended her dissertation and was about to graduate from her doctoral degree program in less than a month. Lei Lani, her kind-hearted soul, agreed to join us and treat us to a scrumptious dinner at Hunasan Seafood House. As we embarked on our culinary adventure, we picked up our friend Mark Canieso along the way, adding to the excitement of the evening.

“I couldn’t contain my excitement when I saw two chafing dishes loaded with crablets. I quickly grabbed a few, eager to taste their crispy goodness. However, I was slightly disappointed they had turned cold and lost their crispiness. It would be fantastic if Hunasan Seafood House could maintain the temperature and texture of its dishes. Nonetheless, the flavor was still there!”

Located at Market Place, just beside the new government building in Bacolod City. The moment we stepped inside, our senses were delighted by the enticing aroma of fresh seafood. Our eyes were treated to an impressive spread of seafood delights, ranging from succulent shrimps and delectable crabs to tantalizing seashells and mouthwatering chicken dishes. The variety was almost astounding, making it a seafood lover’s paradise.

“The abundance of sea shells in Sagay City is a true treasure, and I was tempted to bring some empty home with me from Hunasan Seafood House.  It reminds us of the rich coastal resources in our region.”

The warm welcome from the staff, most of whom hailed from Sagay City, added a touch of sincerity to the dining experience. Their genuine smiles and humble demeanor made us feel right at home. Though they lacked professional food service skills, their honesty, and respect made up for it. However, as attentive observers, we couldn’t help but notice a few areas that could be improved.

One aspect that left us a tad disheartened was the temperature of the food. Arriving at 6 PM, our anticipation was high, fueled by the praises and superlatives we had read from a certain Facebook blogger’s post about the place. However, we were disappointed to discover that many dishes had already gone cold. Although the staff graciously reheated the fish tinola at our request, it was evident that other dishes had lost their comforting warmth. We couldn’t help but think that investing in warmers or implementing other methods to keep the dishes consistently hot and enticing throughout the dining hours would significantly enhance the overall dining experience.

The salad was served at room temperature, allowing the natural flavors of the seaweed to shine through. While the staff demonstrated honesty and respect, there is room for improvement in their food service skills. With proper training and guidance, they have the potential to become top-notch food servers, enhancing the overall dining experience.

“Amidst the abundance of scallops at Hunasan Seafood House, their texture was slightly disappointing. While some of the scallops were a bit dry, it didn’t deter my enthusiasm for enjoying this delectable seafood. I couldn’t resist indulging in plenty of these flavorful morsels during our meal, savoring their unique taste and tender meat. Despite the slight dryness, the sheer variety of scallops offered made it a worthwhile experience.”
