I’ve got a muddy, happy trip last weekend —the Mudpack Festival. The famous Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental is the host for this festival. Oneness with nature is the underlying theme behind this annual mud-moving and visually striking festival.
First conceptualized and developed by the local artists to showcase Mambukal’s built-in wealth, the Mudpack Festival has also become the ground for educating people on environmental protection and conservation. The highlight of this unique festival is a merry-making with dancers’ faces covered with mudpack and bodies painted with Mambukal colored clay; interpretive dance competitions , body painting and much more.
That was my first time to visit the festival . I was amazed of its concept…In fact, I haven’t seen any existing similar festival…I am sad because I felt that the festival was not given much effort to be publicized. Even among other Negrenses… maybe, many are not much aware of what was happening in the festival and how great it is to be there.
As a hobbyist photographer, my fancy was truly satisfied especially that participants were game enough to pose for a shot….I promised to reserve my June 23-24 each year to witness this festival…to experience once again a muddy, yet happy trip!
How to get there:
You can reach Murcia from Bacolod City by private car for only 20-25 minutes; about 30 to 45 minutes by Public Utility Vehicles.
The City of Bacolod is situated at the northern part of Negros Occidental, northwest of Negros Oriental and southeastern part of the province of Iloilo. It is the capital city and the gateway to Negros Occidental. Aside from having culture and history, Bacolod City is fast becoming a convention destination.
