I was privileged to be invited as one of the judges for the La Carlota Pasalamat Festival Visual Arts Competition.
The following were the contest Categories:
MUNECO VISTUARIO (On the Spot Doll Design Contest, Male and Female Category)
In this contest, participants were given dolls and they dressed these dolls in Pasalamat Festival Costume. The theme for the doll contest was Flora and Fauna. I was amazed judging the dolls , I was reminded of the time when I was judging the Best Costume design for the Lin-ay sang Negros 2011 and 2012. Entries were all amazing.
PINTORA Y CUADRO ( On-the Spot Painting Contest – Open Category)
In this contest participants came up there master pieces based on the Theme: Manggad sang Ciudad (Treasure of the City)
ROLLO Y PINTA (SCROLL PAINTING CONTEST)
One of the most difficult category to judge for various reasons: to many contestants especially in the adult category (31 participants) and the huge scroll were all hanging in the city’s plaza.
There was a category also for the elementary school students. I was amazed on how elementary students can paint on those large canvasses.
The theme for this category was: “Working together for peace and progress.
I was amazed of the output of the contest but I cannot mention the winner yet (as of this writing) because the winners will be announced on the highlight of the festival which will be on April 29, 2012. Of course I will be back on the same day to judge again, this time in the costume of the participating tribes in the street dance competition. But this time my fellow Happy Trippers will be with me.
La Carlota’ Pasalamat Festival is indeed one of the most colourful festival in the province of Negros Occidental.
