SIQUIJOR-DUMAGUETE TRIP PART 2: CALIPAY SPRING PARK

Upon arrival, you will be  greeted by this wooden signage at Calipay Spring Park

SIQUIJOR-DUMAGUETE TRIP PART 2: CALIPAY  SPRING PARK

Calipay Spring Park.

That was my second day in my Siquijor- Dumaguete Trip.  I was scheduled to do a coastal tour of the Siquijor Island. I hired a tricycle  with their standard rate of PHP 1,000.00 but the driver added PHP 200.00 because he picked me up from my hotel in San Juan.

That was about 9 AM when we embarked on our tour and our first destination was the Calipay Spring Park.  The Calipay Spring park is one of the primary tourist attractions in Siquijor.  Situated in the town of San Juan, this natural spring park  is found at the very center of the town.

When I  arrived at the place,  I was greeted by the wooden signage of the Park. Calipay Spring Park is a public pool, a development of the local government for the residents to have a free place  to enjoy and  plunge into its refreshing spring waters. The waters come from mountain springs flowing down towards the sea. They have seized the waters in cement pools as they run through the station.

The Calipay Spring Park according to my guide  has three chambers,   the upper pool where the springs are located, the swimming pool and the laundry pool, all flowing into the nearby ocean.

Kids enjoying the cool waters of Calipay Spring Park

Due to its accessibility, Capilay Spring Park has become exceedingly popular among the locals, especially during the summer time. During my visit, I spotted a few families enjoying  the cool waters of the Park.

The Calipay Spring Park   also has a playground, kiosks, and booths around all  perfect for family snaps. I have also noticed  a  wooden stage installed crossing the pool wherein some shows are being held. This park is accented with big trees which could pass on cool shades to its visitors.

Enjoying my selfie… I have to centent myself from selfies because I was travelling alone

There’s nothing much about the place, especially that I don’t have any plan of swimming. So I  decided to take the concrete stairs located on the hillside of the place. Taking the stairs gave me a   better perspective of the entire park. While enjoying my selfies at the concrete stairs, I just realized that I already reached the top where I saw a church.

The Church on the Hilltop: The St. Agustin Parish  Church

The San Agustin Parish Church

The century-old   San Agustin Parish Church  is situated in a small hill overlooking the Capilay Spring Park. It was once part of the Siquijor parish but was established as a separate parish in 1863. I was just sad that I didn’t anymore the original outside portion of the church because it has already been modernized. The only interesting that shows its colonial past   was the coral stone belfry.

  • I've never been to a natural spring park. That seems pretty darn cool to me! I do like the belfry!

  • These are some great pictures. I laughed at the selfie stick. My three oldest (two grown) got one for the holidays and they LOVE those things. :)

  • Looks like an awesome place to visit. I have not traveled to Asia yet, but when I do, I will make sure to include the Philippines. Hopefully 2016 will be a good year for me to travel the world!

  • I am from Philippines but I have neven been to this nice spring park. Will defintely visit soon. Thanks for sharing this!

  • The kids would definitely enjoy this the most. I love the pool and how big it is! Thanks for sharing your experience.
