The search for MassKara Queen began in 1981 as one of the highlights of the festival. For 2018 the name of competition is changed to Masskara Festival Queen.

In celebration of the 2016 MassKara Festival, the Silver MassKara Foundation Inc., headed by Mr. Eli Tajanlangit took the initiative to get the support and give the hosting privilege of the prestigious event to the Association of College & Universities of Negros Occidental (ACUNO) not only to give the helm to the schools but also to reinvent and add more student participation to the iconic search for Bacolod’s Ambassadress of Goodwill. Headed by its president, Dr. Ditas A. Joson of the LCC-Bacolod Graduate School, Dr. Joson tasked a team of creative students to reinvent and revolutionalize the staging of this year’s MassKAra Queen with the tagline: For the Students. By the Students. Kara Estudyante. Hence, an interschool completion of ladies between the ages of 16-23 coming from the different schools in Bacolod officially endorsed by the schools with the requirements of beauty & brain in one package. To make sure that we have the freshest and the rawest talents, all these ladies have not joined any major beauty competitions outside of their school or other inter-school events. Behind these creative endeavor are the creative team with the creation of the new concept and creative directing by Louis Archie D. Perez, a Business Administration major in Marketing Student of the ETEEAP Program of LCC-Bacolod School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education Program, choreography and stage management by Paul Elijah Casiano, a Master Student of La Carlota City College, visuals, photography and video segments by J Godwin D. Torres, Psychology Major of Riverside College and Designs by Edwin Benitez, Doctorate student of University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos. With these individuals, the MassKara Queen pageant has begun its transformation.
