HOT RAINY EVENING AT SODAM KOREAN RESTO

Chapchae is one of the most popular noodle dishes in Korea, and also seems to be the one that Westerners like best. The foundation of the dish is the mixture of the noodles, soy sauce, garlic, and sesame oil.

HOT RAINY EVENING AT SODAM KOREAN RESTO

I guess, the Philippines had really embraced Koreans in the country. One of the manifestations were the   Korean Restaurants  mushroomed in most major cities all over the country. In the Bacolod City alone, quite a number of restaurants and bars  could be found. These restaurants not only attracts Koreans but  locals as well. Two of the latest nice Korean restos in the city are Wara Wara at Robinson’s Central City walk and the Shabuniko along Lacson Street which we featured during their soft opening.

At the southern end of Lacson Street is another Korean Restaurant which opened  several months ago , the SODAM KOREAN RESTO. I would always tell myself to try the place each time I would pass by the resto as it is near my place but its was only last week that we were able to find time to visit and try their food.

While Sodam is quite small as compared to Wara Wara and Shabuniko, the place is descent and comfortable. It is airconditioned and obviously clean. The place is just quite too flashy for me  especially their pink-orange table cloth. Another nice  thing that we’ve noticed immediately on our first visit was the hospitality of the Korean owners whom despite their limited vocabulary of the English Language,  were very active attending to  their guests. Their staff were very nice as well, though the waitress who served us failed to inform us that the food that we ordered was “extra spicy”, and all that she said, that’s nice and that’s good for 3-4 pax.But it’s okay, everything was part of the experience.

For our main course, we ordered the To Ppoki Jungol (I hope I got the spelling right).  It’s a  korean stew which featured a crazy assortment of dumplings, vegetables, noodles, egg, fish sausage and slices of cheese all mixed up in a sweet gochujang sauce.  Although the sauce was sweet, it was ridiculously spicy…super spicy actually. We didn’t order for rice at first because it has noodles in it and the serving was good for four and there were only 2 of us. But the chilli prompted us to order for rice.

Of course , it is usual for any Korean restaurant to serve  Kimchi as an appetizer or side dish. They also gave us Chapchae a sweet Korean noodle dish which was perfect to be paired with Kimchi as it neutralizes the taste.

It was raining  and their air-conditioning system worked perfectly, but obviously we were sweating by the super “hot” taste of our food. Nonetheless, that was still a great food trip.

Try to visit this restaurant and enjoy their spicy hospitality .
