2017 MASSKARA FESTIVAL DANCE | SCHOOL CATEGORY

2017 MASSKARA FESTIVAL DANCE | SCHOOL CATEGORY

As I took pictures of the students getting themselves ready for the dance parade I realized that indeed the  Masskara Festival has come a long way. In the past, when you say “school category”, one would have the idea that the costumes of the dancers are not really as “bongga” as compared to the “barangay” or open category. But, now I can’t help but adore the kids not only in their high spirit but with their beautiful costumes and performance.

I truly love  the flamboyant  costumes with vibrant colors and outlandish designs.

I will try to upload as fast as I could the Barangay Category Tomorrow, I’m sure it will be truly  “bonggaesous”.

About Masskara Festival:

The Masskara Festival is a festival held each year in Bacolod, Philippines, every third weekend of October.

The festival features the street dance competition where people from all walks of life troop to the streets to see masked dancers gyrating to the rhythm of the Masskara beat and displaying their mastery, gaiety, coordination, and stamina. Major activities include the MassKara Queen beauty pageant, carnivals, drum and bugle corps competitions, food festivals, sports events, musical concerts, agriculture-trade fairs, garden shows, and other special events organized ad-hoc every year.

The Street Dancing is divided into two categories; the school’s division and the barangays, the latter is considered as the highlight of the street dancing competition.
