EASTER WEAVING ROOM: WEAVING THE CORDILLERA CULTURE

EASTER WEAVING ROOM: WEAVING THE CORDILLERA CULTURE

After several visits in Baguio City, there’s  still a place which I’ve never seen before, the Easter Weaving Room. It was the driver of our hired vehicle who brought us to the place. At first, I thought he just wanted us to shop for some Baguio souvenirs, but the place turned out to be very educational for all of us.

Easter Weaving Room is home to Baguio City’s  native fabrics and other handicrafts. At Easter Weaving Room we were able to   witness the actual process of cloth weaving as practiced by the natives of the Mountain Province for ages.   Easter Weaving Room offered us the opportunity to  see for ourselves the age-old weaving process at their work area.

Its quite fascinating to see the intricacy and difficulty of weaving  in a traditional manner.   The experience of being with the weavers even just for a while made me prouder of our culture and heritage as a Filipino.

Their showroom offers a wide array of  colorful  hand-woven articles  ideal  for gifts and pasalubong such as   wall decors, bed linens, clothing, ethnic and ikat textiles, religious garments, bags, wallets, purses, Christmas articles, slippers, area rugs, etc. They also have wood carvings, baskets, fashion accessories and many more.

I didn’t go home without buying few pieces for my house. Of course, along with the items that I bought were the stories behind, how it is being made and the culture behind it.

How to Get Here:

I am sure that most Taxi in Baguio knew the place, just tell them where to take you. But in case you’re  traveling by your private car here’s the direction:

By private transportation: From Burnham Park, which is at the heart of Baguio City, climb up Abanao Road, past Camp Allen and at the stoplight turn right to Bokawkan Road, head downhill and turn left to Easter Road, travelling for a few hundred meters more until you see Easter Weaving Room to your right.
