The area is known amongst many as the Millionaires Row in Bacolod because it is where the mansions of affluent families in the 1030s are standing and still standing in good conditions.

One of the mansions and perhaps the most popular is the Daku Balay (Big House), the first Art Deco Structure. The mansion is the ancestral house of Don Generoso Villanueva, a sugar planter.

The Villanueva couple Generoso and his wife Paz) took three years to build the mansion (1933-1939)

2. The structure was the tallest in the city until 1959.

3. The mansion has multi-colored marbling, inspired by the Italian scagliola marble style.

4. Paintings of native animals and landscapes and deco-motifs are handpainted in various parts of the mansions like the elevator doors and the glass dividers between bedrooms.

5. In some walls and ceilings of the house were relief sculptures of characters and folktales.

Across the mansion, Don Generoso Villanueva built a bit smaller mansion for her sister with the same designs. The families live in the house, and they don’t open the place to the public.
