Yakimix SM City Bacolod Review
Contents
There are days when choosing where to eat becomes more complicated than it should be.
That was exactly our situation—Lei Lanie, Engiemar Tupas, Jojo Bayona, and I—going back and forth, suggesting one place after another, and still not settling on anything. Until someone said Yakimix.
And suddenly, it made sense.
It had been a while since we last ate there. Sometimes, that alone is reason enough. You go back not just for the food, but for familiarity—daw safe choice bala.
Yakimix is a buffet-style restaurant offering a mix of Japanese, Korean, and Filipino dishes, best known for its smokeless grill tables and wide selection of ready-to-eat food.
What makes it appealing:
It’s a go-to for groups because of one simple reason: variety.
Unlike à la carte dining—where ordering more dishes means spending more—a buffet gives you the freedom to explore without overthinking every order.

For us, buffet dining still makes sense.
You pay once, but you get choices—and that’s something we always consider when eating out as a group. Instead of worrying about ordering multiple dishes and watching the bill add up, you already know what to expect.
And sometimes, that simplicity is exactly what you need—hapos, diretso, kag sulit.
This visit wasn’t like the others.
Both Jojo Bayona and I are now into low-carb eating, which completely changed how we approached the buffet.
Most of the ready-to-eat dishes—while tempting—are often:
So instead of exploring everything, we became selective.
We focused on:
And this is where Yakimix still holds its ground.
This remains one of the strongest parts of Yakimix.
The salmon alone was enough reason for me to keep coming back to the sushi station. Simple, fresh, and satisfying—no unnecessary complexity, just something that works.
For someone watching carbs, this became a safe space.
Fresh greens, simple combinations—it helped balance the meal and gave me options beyond just waiting for grilled food.
Now this is worth talking about.
We highlighted the lechon kawali not just because it’s a popular dish—but because for low-carb diners, it is one of the few ready-to-eat items that actually fits the criteria.
However, our experience with it was mixed.
Engiemar even exclaimed, “daw indi nami ang Lechon Kawali…daw indi bag-o” .Perhaps it’s in the preparation or how long it has been sitting—but overall, the four of us didn’t really enjoy it as much as we hoped
👉 Still, we mention it because it represents an important point:
For low-carb diners, this should have been a standout.
This is where the experience shifted significantly.
Since Jojo and I were relying heavily on grilled food, the expectation was simple: the grill should work efficiently.
But it didn’t.
And when you’re hungry, 30 minutes feels very long.
At one point, I told the staff:
👉 “We’re almost done with our lunch… but the meat isn’t cooked yet.”
That moment said everything.
For Lei and Engiemar, it was fine—they had plenty of cooked dishes to enjoy.
But for us, the grilling experience—which is supposed to be a highlight—did not serve its purpose.
To balance everything out, the service was pleasant.
And yes, a highlight for me:
👉 They sang and danced for my birthday (March celebrant 😄)
That small gesture made a difference.
Amo gid na ya—simple things, pero maka smile ka.
Yakimix still holds its place as a reliable buffet option in Bacolod, especially if:
But here’s the honest part:
👉 If your focus is grilling—this is where Yakimix currently struggles.
Compared to other grill-based buffet restaurants, it feels like Yakimix is falling behind in this specific area.
This visit gave me a different perspective.
Before, I enjoyed Yakimix fully.
But that was when I wasn’t paying attention to what I ate.
Now, with a more focused approach—especially on grilled food—I experienced a different side of the restaurant.
Still, this isn’t a negative story.
👉 Yakimix is still a good place to dine—it just needs improvement where expectations are highest.
Because once the grilling experience improves, it can easily go back to being a top choice.
✔ What Works:
✖ What Needs Improvement:
Yes—but with adjusted expectations.
For variety? Definitely.
For grilling? Not yet.
But we’re hopeful.
Because once that one issue is fixed, Yakimix can easily win us back again.
