Crispy Ukoy by Quan. This snack item can is perfect as a snack paired with your favorite soda or as an appetizer.

TRY PINOY DELICACY: QUAN’S  UKOY

I love Ukoy. It’s one Pinoy delicacy that can be eaten as a snack or as an appetizer.

Ukoy or Fritters has many versions. There’s the cassava version with the cassava, of course, being the main base/ingredient, others are using squash, sweet potatoes, mongo sprout, carrots, papaya, and other veggies. All the ingredients of this dish,   are mixed into a batter and then deep-fried — resulting in a fairly crunchy patty.

Sinamak is the perfect dip for the crispy ukoy as it gives balance to the flavor.

But there’s one version of this snack item that I really like most- the Quan’s Ukoy. Quan’s version  Ukoy is a lot crispier as compared to other versions. It’s thin and while you cannot visibly see the shrimp in the ukoy, its flavor is perfectly tasted in every bite. This kakanin is best eaten when dipped with vinegar and garlic. But being an Ilonggo, I love to eat the ukoy with sinamak. Sinamak is the Visayan’s version of spiced vinegar. This condiment derives its appeal and zest from several spices that were combined and soaked in vinegar.

So what are you waiting for? Visit any Quan Outlet now and enjoy this yummy and crispy  Ukoy!

  • Haven't been to Bacolod City yet, much more tried eating ukoy, but I'm definitely willing to try one.

  • Oh my gulay! I miss Ukoy! I think in our place they call it Ocoy. Anyway, I never really liked it as a kid because I know there was seafood in it. LOL. But I love it's crunchiness, plus it's better if the sauce is good and spicy!

  • I missed eating Filipino snacks. I wish I live closer where Asian store is but unfortunately it is in the city. It is quite a long drive for me.

  • Wow! This sounds delicious and healthy too. The spiced vinegar would be a great dipping sauce. I will try to make the variant with shrimps. We love seafood in our home.

  • This is awesome with rice but even better as an afternoon snack. Hehe. I can probably finish about 5-6 pieces of this!
