CORON CALAUIT SAFARI AND BEACH TOUR
Hey there, fellow happy trippers!
I’ve got an exciting travel guide for you all, and this time it’s all about the stunning paradise of Coron, Palawan. Brace yourselves for an adventure like no other in this Calamian Group of Islands gem, renowned for its breathtaking sights and historic Japanese shipwrecks.
Located just 310 kilometers southwest of Manila, this island is a true treasure protected by both the government and the indigenous Tagbanwa people, who lovingly call it “Calis.” With its rich ecological features and ancestral fishing grounds, it’s a place of immense significance. Fun fact: Although Coron is the largest town on the island of Busuanga, it’s actually a separate landmass on its own.
Prepare to be mesmerized by the geography of this remarkable place. Around 70% of the island is adorned with towering rocky formations made of Permian limestone, dating back to the Jurassic era. The remaining 30% is a mix of rolling hills and flat lands, creating a diverse and versatile landscape. And that’s not all—Coron boasts 11 stunning lakes, three of which are believed to be directly connected to the sea underground. The mangroves that thrive along the shores add to the natural splendor.
But wait, there’s more! Coron Palawan is a true aquatic wonderland. Its crystal-clear blue seawaters are a sight to behold, whether you’re exploring above or below the surface. Snorkeling, diving, and swimming in these pristine waters are experiences you’ll cherish forever.

Let’s dive into another exciting aspect of Coron, Palawan—the fascinating world of shipwrecks. With a historical background as a site of sea battles, the nearby waters of this island still hold remnants of World War II in the form of Japanese shipwrecks hidden beneath the depths. These underwater sites, named after sunken Japanese ships like Akitsushima, Kogyo Maru, Irako, and Okikawa Maru, have become unique attractions and diving hotspots.
For diving enthusiasts, exploring these shipwreck sites is an absolute must. Ranging in depth from 50 to 80 feet, these wrecks offer an extraordinary underwater experience. Imagine swimming through the remnants of history, surrounded by the mysteries of the deep.
But don’t worry if you’re not a fan of deep-sea diving. The shallower areas around the island provide perfect snorkeling spots, allowing you to witness the wonders beneath the surface. Grab your snorkel gear and prepare to be amazed by the vibrant marine life and stunning coral formations. One particular spot worth mentioning is “Gunter’s Cave” or Cathedral Cave, known for its mysterious allure. When the sunlight finds its way into the cave, the whole scene is illuminated, creating a breathtaking sight.
So whether you’re a daring diver or a curious snorkeler, Coron Palawan has something extraordinary to offer. Get ready to explore the underwater wonders and be mesmerized by the hidden treasures beneath the waves.

Coron, Palawan: A Calamian Group of Islands Paradise, A site of Japanese Shipwrecks
Just 310 kilometers just southwest of Philippine’s capital city of Manila and mainly north of the island province of Palawan to which it belongs, lies an island so treasured, both the government and the native Tagbanwa people protect it as such.
Known to the local people of Coron (the largest town on the island of Busuanga which also gave the name to the island) and Tagbanwa instead as “Calis,” the island and its nearby fishing areas are the latter’s ancestral domain, known for their rich ecological features. Looking at the map, however, the island is a separate landmass than its larger counterpart, Busuanga.
Geographically, the place consists of high rocky formations for at least 70% of its overall build. Interestingly, these cliffs are made from Permian limestone which is believed to be of Jurassic origin. Another 25% of the island is made of rolling hills which makes for an uneven ground while the remaining 5% is flat. For some, this kind of geographic make-up is not only diverse across the board, but it is also versatile.
Other exciting features of the atoll are its 11 different lakes, three of which were believed to be directly connected to the sea below ground, and the mangroves that burgeon around the island’s shores. Although there had been frequent visits to these lakes, the relative absence of human civilization around these bodies of water kept it preserved thereby maintaining their see-through clarity.
While the landmass itself is a place to behold, there are other places to see in this place. As a piece of land surrounded by seas, Coron Palawan is a spectacle as well when it comes to its blue seawaters, whether seen above waters or below.
Coron Palawan Travel Guide | Tourist Spots / Attractions, Hotels
For a place that had been historically a site of battles at sea, the nearby waters of this island make for a vestige of World War 2 due to the lingering presence of Japanese shipwrecks that remain under the depths of the sea. Inevitably, all these sites are named after the Japanese ships that were sunk under the sea such as Akitsushima, Kogyo Maru, Irako, Okikawa Maru, etc.
Consequently, as unusual as it is to a natural sea, these sites where shipwrecks are found make for the island’s diving spots and a unique tourist attraction. For the diving enthusiasts, these wreck diving sites vary in depth, averaging between 50 to 80 feet.
Elsewhere, other dive sites such as “Gunter’s Cave”—credited to a certain foreign explorer who explored the place after hearing about it from the locals—or otherwise called Cathedral Cave makes for another mysterious place, particularly during a particular time of the day when sunlight sees its way in the overall picture and illuminate the site within.
But for those who would not dare the deeper ocean, the shallower areas around the island make for perfect spots for snorkeling which gives snorkelers a clear view of what’s underneath.

When it comes to its blue seawaters, Coron, Palawan is a sight to behold, whether from above or below. The latter's ancestral territory is the island and the fishing grounds nearby, which are the destination. They are known for having a diverse ecological composition. Geographically speaking, the area is made up of high rocky formations, which contributes to its attractiveness because the Permian limestone cliffs are thought to be of Jurassic origin. "The Jurassic period of the Mesozoic era, or the corresponding system of rocks, is between the Triassic and the Cretaceous. It is distinguished by the existence of dinosaurs and the first avian ancestors", which makes it more interesting. It also has 11 different lakes on the island, three of which are believed to be directly connected to the sea underneath, and thriving forest areas all around it. It is attractive in particularly to explorers and researchers due to the presence of World War 2 Japanese Shipwrecks. All of these are naturally product of our country, so we should strive to develop and maintain them so that they can draw more tourists and create more opportunities for growing our tourist economy. Even though it draws in foreign investors and creates work opportunities, environmental protection should not be neglected.
Palawan is one of the tourists spot in the Philippines. It attracts foreign investors, creating more jobs to the locals however, environment care should not be neglected. We have to care for our environment at the same time embracing the development of the place.
Advantages of Foreign Direct Investment
1. Beautiful Sea, Underwater Mountains and Rock formation.
- one of the advantages why our foreign investors considers Colon, Palawan as one of the best investment s because of its natural seas, underwater mountains and rock formations that can attract and encourage more tourists to visit the place.
2. Culture and Traditions
- Coron Palawan has a very rich diversity due to its vast numbers of culture groups. In this province, there are 87 cultural groups and many different religions due to its proximity with Asia and it bears strong influences to China, India and The Middle East. Many different religions are practiced in Palawan due to its diverse cultural past.
3. Tourists Spots, Day and Night activities and Wide Beautiful Places
- One of the advantages investing in Palawan it’s because of it’s tourists spots. There are a lot of fun activities, in land and sea, day and night and it can cover a lot of tourists perfect for Large gatherings like Pageants, Seminars and Relaxation. Recently, Ms Earth Philippines held in Coron, Palawan because of it’s beautiful places and rock formations.
Disadvantages
1. Transportation
-even though that there are a lot of ways to go to the Palawan air and water but we can’t deny the fact that Coron Palawan is quite far from the Airport so sometimes transportation might give bad experience going to Palawan.
2. Weather
- In every resorts, weather is very crucial especially if it’s affecting the places and fun activities. So some investors weather is part of investment decisions.
3. Lack Of Advertisements for some parts of Colon, Palawan especially the underwater mountains and other beautiful rock formations.
Coron announced that the place is already COVID Free which has a positive pull factor for the tourist and investors. And just this year the Department of Tourism supports Coron's sustainable tourism development and to recover by 2026. The place is a top searched destination for both international and local travelers with its breathtaking sceneries such as white sand beaches, large limestone cliffs and diving spots. Coron is to be the center of Agritourism by 2028 which creates job opportunities to locals. Palawan could be among the first to benefit from the recently amended Public Service Act. (PSA) However, their might have disadvantages because of many tourist visiting their might be management abuses like overcrowding. Higher costs, because of the foreign investment we can notice that it is more expensive than when we export goods. And hindrance to domestic investment.
Advantages and disadvantages of direct foreign investments in the beautiful island of Palawan.
The Philippine government has always encouraged direct foreign investments as it is critical for a developing country like ours. Economic growth is one of the obvious advantages of direct foreign investments. The creation of jobs will reduce unemployment rates in the area – an increase in employment will result in higher income for the population which will boost the overall economy of the country. Foreign direct investment will also ensure a continuous flow of foreign exchange which will result in a stable exchange rate in the country.
Exchange in human capital is also an advantage – the exchange of knowledge and skills that Filipinos can gain through new training and experience from foreign investors can boost the human capital of the Philippines. Related to this is the access to new technologies and operational practices that foreign investors carry with them which will improve the tourism industry.
However, direct foreign investment can also be a hindrance to domestic investment. Local companies are small compared to foreign counterparts – they will lose interest in investing because they cannot compete with foreign businesses. But the most worrisome of the disadvantages of foreign investment in Palawan is its effect on the environment. Palawan is known as the country's last ecological frontier. Palawan province is a land filled with beautiful beaches, amazing coral reefs, and wonderful wilderness areas. The risk of opening the area to direct foreign investors threatens to inflict grave and irreparable injury to the Palawan ecosystem. The infrastructure works that foreign investors will do on the island will not only affect the marine ecosystem but also the migratory patterns of the birds and bats in the area.
The Philippine government, therefore, should ensure that all necessary permits be complied with by foreign investors before infrastructures are built in the area. Never should the Philippine biodiversity be killed for money as it will deprive future generations of the wonders of nature found in Palawan.

Coron Palawan is a wonderful place to visit based on your blog. Every time I happen to watch a vlog from foreigners who visit our country, Coron Palawan is always mentioned. They describe it as a majestic place to visit. Enchanted. For foreigners this place is cheap, they can afford to rent a whole island without hurting their pockets but for Filipinos, it is the other way around. Coron for us is expensive to visit. We prefer beaches near us than to go to Palawan, after all, it is still a beach.
Sooner or later there will be foreign investors that will take over Palawan same as what happened to Boracay Island. For me, there are advantages and disadvantages if this happens. AS the PRO EFFECT of the Foreign direct investment, there will be an ECONOMIC GROWTH, our country is a beautiful place and it is not difficult to market it as a tourist destination. the more tourist coming into our country, the more money also comes in.
There will also be MORE JOBS AND OPPORTUNITIES in Palawan. There will be more hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other businesses in Palawan and by that, there will be more jobs available.
My CONS will be concerning in our Environment and more likely how foreigners play in our Market. Firstly, if there will be more businesses such as hotels, resorts, and restaurants in Palawan, more land will turn into commercial areas. For me, our islands such as Palawan must not be overpopulated or crowded. Knowing that our country is not strict at implementing rules, regulations, and laws, for sure foreign investors will take advantage of this. As many commercials will be built, the more will damage our environment, the more it will not look like a tourist spot anymore. Coron must remain an environmental wildlife sanctuary, if there will be a business it should take consider protecting the environment and wildlife. Lastly, it is just sad for me that foreigners are the ones who gains in our land. Instead of us hiring foreign people to work for us. We are being hired by foreigners to work for them in our own motherland. How ironic and how sad that we should be the people who will enjoy the abundance of our own land.

MBA200: Global Economy
The Pros of Direct Foreign Investment (FDI) in the Coron, Palawan Tourism
are the following:
(a) First of all Foreign Direct Investment (DFI) can entice economic growth since it helps in the
creation of local jobs, businesses as well as the different products and services in Palawan;
(b) By the time, it also results to human capital development wherein it boosts knowledge and
competence in reference to trainings and experiences obtained by employees of tourism
businesses in Coron Palawan which contributes to the development of human resources;
(c) Eventually, DFI also aids the Increase in exports of local products which may potentially
uphold not just the promotion of Tourist destinations in Coron, Palawan but can also
contribute to the growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP);
(d) Lastly, DFI contributes to the improvement of Capital Flow. In other words, due to the
facilitation of the inflows of Capital especially in Coron, Palawan will give better
opportunities to raise fund in the global capital market.
The Cons of Direct Foreign Investment (FDI) in the Coron, Palawan Tourism
are the following:
(a) Firstly, one of the negative effects of Foreign Direct Investment (DFI) in the Tourism industry
in Palawan may possibly cause Hindrance of domestic investment since local companies
may loose their interest in investing on the local products in Coron, Palawan;
(b) Secondly, DFI may also impart modern economic colonial mentality which may possibly
unveil the natural beauty and resources of the host country that makes it vulnerable to
exploitation of foreign countries;
(c) Thirdly, since DFI tends to generate funds from foreign investors, tourism sersvices and
products will imply higher cost in order to amplify the return of investment (ROI).
(d) Lastly, expropriation can also be one of the major setbacks of DFI in Coron, Palawan since
those foreign investors are compelled to adhere the different laws that regulates foreign
investments. As such, the government will have control over their assets and properties.
Another great post. I hope Palawan will be able to maintain their natural resource.
