TINAGO FALLS, ILIGAN CITY TRAVEL GUIDE

Tinago Falls, Iligan City, One of the most memorable places which I’ve visited in my recent vacation to Iligan City

Tinago Falls Travel Guide

Tinago falls, wherein the word Tinago derived from the word “hidden,” is located at Iligan’s Town – Linamon. Some of you may wonder why how the locals named it such. You have to take 500 steps before reaching the place. It’s as if nature has nowhere to be found unless you make the effort of endless-feel trekking. On the deep gorge, you can see this hidden Tinago Falls’ beauty and majesty.

It takes patience and endurance to get there, but I am telling you – it is worth it! I can’t describe how beautiful the place can be. The fantastic small cave in the falls is welcome to the visitor for them to hear the rumbling waters from the inside.

I’m lost for words on how this Iligan City has much attraction to offer for both locals and international tourists. Out of the city’s waterfalls, Tinago Falls is second to Maria Christina Falls as the most-visited tourist spot in that area.

Tourists love the scenic waterfalls coming from the 240feet-high place running down into the deep tranquil water, alluring you to take an instant deep on the water.

Relieve your stress. Stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You need to relive and recharge trough internalizing the nature-feel spirit of Tinago Falls. Whether you need to escape from worries or replenish your lost energy, this tourist spot is the best place to go.

The welcoming ambiance of this place makes you want to go back for more.

As we approached the foot of the mountain, the magical paradise was unveiled little by little. And finally, when you have full sight of the falls, you will surely be refreshed. I truly enjoyed the Tinago falls.

How to Get to Tinago Falls

Manila – Cagayan de Oro

Buy a ticket from Cebu Pacific or Philippines Airlines. Look for seat sales ahead of time. Those who practice DIYs and thrifty traveling are the happiest travelers I’ve ever known.

Cebu/Davao City – Cagayan de Oro

You can take a direct flight from Davao to CDO, or you can opt to ride a bus via Rural Transit or Bachelor Express going to Butuan. From Butuan, take a bus ride going to CDO. Both travel expenses cost P600 pesos. (Php300 each)

Cagayan de Oro – Iligan City

If you took a plane trip, you could ride a taxi going to Balua Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal. From there, take the Iligan City route bus. On the other hand, if you travel by land, ride a tricycle going to the terminal with the same instruction.

Iligan City – Tinago Falls

a. Habal-habal – this may be the most convenient among other rides, but the fare is pricy, which starts from Php 600. If it’s not affordable for you, you can take the second option.

b. Jeep to Habalhabal (motorcycle) – After getting off from the bus, take a jeep going to the Iligan city proper, then ride another jeepney via Maria Christina or Purakan route. Advise the driver to take you to Purakan crossing. From there, ride a habal-habal to take you directly to Tinago Falls.

Compared to the first option, this can be time-consuming but a lot cheaper. Besides, you travel to Tinago Falls with adventure in mind. So, why don’t you take it as a full blast experience with your family and friends?

The first jeep ride cost Php8, then another P11 for the second one. The habal-habal ride costs Php35 per head. You can share it with your partner on this.

The water alone was so inviting and the sight and sounds of the children diving and swimming and having fun in the bamboo raft were very enticing.  The rentals and entrance were very cheap as well so I took all the opportunity I had to enjoy the place. Visiting Tinago Falls was very rewarding and while the place is quite far from the city I vow to return and bring more of my friends who have never been there.

Checklists

ü Extra clothes (for trekking and swimming)

ü Foods (I bet you don’t want to return and take another 500 steps going to Tinago Falls.)

ü First Aid Kit

ü Camera! (Capture and relive every moment.)

Travelling gives happiness more than you can imagine. Bring the unreplaceable smiles, and laughter wherever you go. You can see how it’ll change your life better than before!

Under the falls is a small cave where people can enter and listen to the rumbling waters. I didn’t attempt to go inside the cave as I am not familiar with the place.

Tinago Falls is one of the beautiful if not the most beautiful waterfall in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte in the southern Philippine, Mindanao. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Iligan and one of the most visited falls in the city. In fact, Tinago was one of the locations which were featured in the movie   ” Forever and a Day” which starred by KC Concepcion and Sam Milby.

Trekking to the falls includes approximately 445  descending steps which the locals called the winding staircase. The “going down” was relatively easy, but the “going up” was really a challenge. For senior citizens going into the falls could be difficult. In fact, going down the falls is not advised for the hypertensive or people with a heart problem. Otherwise, they are advised to take a rest in between.

The falls is high, with an elevation of approximately 420 feet cascades.  The very cold waters cascading beautifully into a deep and calm basin-like pool which appears like a blue-colored lagoon.
