SAN SEBASTIAN CATHEDRAL, BACOLOD | MASS SCHEDULE

San Sebastian Cathedral

BACOLOD SAN SEBASTIAN CATHEDRAL

Traveling from one place to another has been one of the things that I am very excited about. That is why when I received an invitation that I need to attend the wedding of a family member which will take place in San Sebastian Cathedral, I was excited. Imagine exploring the favorite spots in Bacolod? Yes! That is the same blissful feeling I had back then. I had this idea in mind that doing some tour in the city will make me appreciate the place more. Only to realize that aside from the usual spots to visit, the venue of the wedding itself is enough for me to feel very satisfied with my trip. As a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod and was built back in the 19th century. The San Sebastian Cathedral has been here for a long time and based on its current standing and status; it is here to stay for as long as we can imagine.

Digging on the historical aspect of the place, I came across different articles which lays-out the rich history of the cathedral. It was back in the 1700s when the local inhabitants of the area called Malay called as Magsungay were placed under the protection of St. Sebastian, as instituted by the early Christian missionaries. It was when the Moro pirates started the plagued the place that the settlers were forced to move to the hilly terrain called as bakolod. Thus, the establishment of the cathedral back in 1825 became a part of the rich history. In the succeeding years, the place continued to receive renovations, improvements, and donations. The current form it has nowadays was built back in 1876 under the supervision of Fr. Mauricio Ferrero.

Following the baroque architecture, the place has become more and more beautiful over the years. The antiquity of it, the solemn vibes in general, and the quiet and serene environments play in perfect harmony, making it ideal for those who would like to find solace in the arms of the Lord. Hence, it is inevitable that one may even fall in love with the place.

The wedding ceremony that I attended lasted for about 2 hours, including the photo opportunities after the actual ceremony. With that being said, I was able to observe the most beautiful details of the entire cathedral, and I was able to marvel for quite some time around. I took a walk along the patio at the side, I took a closer look at all the details of the walls, and almost everything about the cathedral. Yes, it is old. But in its age, comes a better and a much-sophisticated form of class and beauty.

Given a chance, I would like to go back to this cathedral and once more witness how such a beautiful house of worship was able to stand the test of time, tragedies, calamities, and all other natural occurrences. If you happen to also visit the area, do not forget to drop by to the San Sebastian Cathedral.
