The Baclaran Church and It’s Mass Schedule

Baclaran Church or also known as the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (Pambansang Dambana ng Ina ng Laging Saklolo) is located at Roxas Boulevard in Baclaran, Paranaque. The close distance of the Church to all other parks and tourist hubs make it ideal for both devotees and tourists to flock the area. Thus, the increasing number of Church visitors only shows the strong faith and belief of the people to the lasting compassion of Mother Mary.

Interesting Features of Baclaran Church and Mass Schedule

  1. Baclaran Day

If you would like to take advantage of the flock of people and join them as they do their religious activities, then Wednesday is the specific day for you to head to Baclaran Church. As the place is teeming with pilgrims, the only disadvantage is that the road tends to be congested with motorists. On the other hand, if you would like to go on a much quiet and peaceful visit, you know which day to avoid.

2. Imported Icon

The icon enshrined at the top of the main altar originally came from Germany. It was brought to Ireland, then Australia by the priests of the Redemptorist Order. It was brought to the Philippines in 1906 since we were considered as United States territory then. The icon has the Papal arm in its paneling at the back.

It was in 1958, during the celebration of the feast of the Immaculate Conception when the Church was authorized by the Holy See to be open 24/7 for the whole year. This allowed a vast number of devotees and pilgrims to flock the place, knowing that it was freely accessible to accommodate visitors any time of the day within that year.

  1. Papal Blessing

During the first visit of Pope John Paul II in 1981, he blessed the Church. Making it much revered, valuable, and treasured by the entire country, most notably its parishioners, pilgrims, and devotees.

  1. History

The Baclaran Church was initially dedicated to Saint Therese of Lisieux. It was in 1932 that the Redemptorists moved to Baclaran from Malate and built the Church having Saint Therese of Lisieux as the chief patroness. The turn of events took place when the family of Ynchausti donated a high altar, in exchange for changing the patroness of the Church from Saint Therese of Lisieux to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Lo and behold, it happened. When it opened, the vast number of devotees started to flock the place. Series of wars and catastrophes threatened the existence of the Church, but its people continued fighting for it and rebuilding it until the present time.

  1. Modern Romanesque Architecture

The Romanesque architecture of the Church allowed it to be spacious enough to accommodate 2,000 seated audience. But the total number of people it can help, including those who are standing, can reach up to the maximum number of 11,000 people. As of now, the estimated number of devotees of the shrine is already about 120,000 in total.
