WAT PHRA THAT DOI SUTHEP ,CHIANG MAI, THAILAND | TOURIST ATTRACTION

That was Sunday, the only day wherein I can go out and see Chiang Mai while I was attending an advanced leadership course in the Rose of the North– Chiang Mai. Our destination that Sunday was Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sacred temple for the Buddhist and a famous Chiang Mai Attraction among the tourist.

Very often the place is just called by many as Doi Suthep, although that name is actually the name of the mountain where the temple is located. Doi Suthep located in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand and standing 1,676 m tall. Doi Suthep is found 15 km away from Chiang Mai city center. Most of the bedrock of the mountain is said to be granite.

I didn’t know much about the place, but the staff at the hotel were we were staying recommended the place for us to visit. So I started to search about the place at Google and invite some of my classmates to go with me on that trip.

Since we have the number, we rented a vehicle to bring us and wait for us.

The Wat Phra That Doi Suthep can be reached by road from Chiang Mai. From the car park at the temple base, visitors must climb 309 steps for free to reach the temple complex. The easier option was taking the tram. Entry to the temple on the tram would cost 30 Thai baht for foreigners (or 50 baht if you would like a two-way tram ticket included). The temple is free for the Thai nationals.

It was amazing seeing these lovely kids dancing a Traditional Thai Dance

As soon as we reached the temple grounds we were greeted by Thai Kids playing Thai Music with their traditional musical instruments with the girls dancing gracefully.

All visitors must bear in mind that the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is a holy place of worship amongst the Buddhist. Hence, once inside the temple grounds, visitors are expected to take off their shoes. Visitors must be appropriately dressed, which means no wearing of short pants or other revealing garments.

The original copper-plated chedi is said to be the holiest area of the temple grounds. Within the site were pagodas, statues, bells, and shrines.  While you are at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one can also see views of Chiang Mai.

Apart from being a place of worship for the Buddhist, the  Doi Suthep is such a beautiful place and no doubt as one must-see Chiang Mai attraction. As always, I was impressed by intricate designs of the structures especially their spectacular use of wood carvings.

almost all structures at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep are adorned with beautiful carving and some intricate golden accents

As soon as we completely explored the place,  we decided to go down using the 306 steps. Taking the place is just easy and a nice experience seeing many tourists visiting the place.

At the base of the hill were various shops selling various colorful Thai items including food.If you are a traveler, try buying some souvenirs here, as these  stalls also sell many interesting pieces at a cheap price. Just learn how to bargain, though.
