Sinigayan Festival
Located at the northern part of the island of Negros is the City of Sagay. With such an unfamiliar name for many, it is noteworthy to know that a lot of things could be seen in this secluded yet beautiful place. It is famous for its Carbin and Panal reef which is mostly being visited by a lot of tourists every summer. The warm or temperate weather of the place did not stop the locals from coming up with a set of festivities to celebrate. As a way of giving thanks to the things that they are gifted with every year, they celebrate the Sinigayan Festival. You might be asking now, what makes this festival unique than the rest of the other festivals being held in Negros? Well, these festivals are done as a tribute to different purposes and different ways.
Gladly, the Sinigayan Festival was able to make its name in terms of beauty and uniqueness of the celebration. The name of the festivity itself was derived from the word “sigay” which refers to the hard, bright-shelled mollusks that are very abundant in the shores of Sagay. Thus, the abundance of this mollusk allows a better and much diverse marine life for the city. Also, it is a way of giving thanks to their patron saint, St. Joseph. This activity peaks on the 19th of March, the feast day of St. Joseph. The dark part of the history of the place includes the trend of the illegal and destructive fishing method then, but through the collaboration of the local government and the local settlers, it was fixed, and the place was rehabilitated. Thus, the celebration of the Sinigayan festival is a way of letting the world know that they can defeat such wrongdoing because they are after the beauty and wellness of their natural environment. This is manifested by the set of activities that they prepare during the celebration.
Visit Sagay City and experience the warm welcome of the locals, the vibrant and lively color of the decorated streets, and the festive dance presentation in the main roads are indeed a sight to behold!

Greetings!
I am scheduled to travel to Sagay City next year, April 30, 2021 to be exact, and planned to stay there for 2 weeks.
And its my very first time to visit my father's homeland since I was born.
I am not expecting anything extra ordinary but to experience life different from what I am used to.
I am positive that my stay would be a memorable one with all the festivities and friendships that I'll experience along the way!
And got to experience the hospitality & warmth of the people of Sagay, most, my family there!
Sending lots of warm greetings!
