PATAPAT VIADUCT| ILOCOS NORTE TOURIST SPOT

Getting back and forth  Kabigan Falls was quite exhausting. After visiting the Kabigan Falls (part of my Ilocos Itinerary),  I realized that I was sweating heavily. I have to take off my shirt for fear of getting sick—oh the beauty of having a van. I never regretted that we got a van though it was quite expensive because only two of us will be dividing the rent. I thought, next time  I should be wearing a jersey for any of my future adventure trips.

After a few minutes drive from Kabigan Falls, we arrived at our next destination, the Patapat Viaduct (Bridge). I’d been dreaming to see this place personally as I was seeing beautiful photographs of the bridge across social media. Well, I was not disappointed. No wonder, I was seeing even pre-nuptial photos taken in this place.

This picture-perfect Patapat Viaduct was constructed under the Marcos Administration and was opened to traffic in October 1986.  It is 1.128 km long comprising of 76 spans and rises 31 meters above sea level. The two-lane winding bridge hugs the slopes of the mountains as it connects Ilocos and Cagayan hence the name. Patapat means “belt” in Ilokano. It is said to be the fourth-longest bridge (in general) in the Philippines.

We get off the van to take some photos.

How to Get to Patapat Viaduct

The Patapat viaduct is about 16+ kilometers from Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte (approximately an hour away). This is farther north from Blue Lagoon. From Pagudpud, simply head northeast towards Cagayan. This will take you through winding mountain roads that have greens growing luxuriantly on both sides and occasional views of the sea until you reach the Patapat Viaduct.
