ILOCOS NORTE TOURIST SPOT | MALACANANG OF THE NORTH

ILOCOS, VIGAN, PAGUDPUD TRIP PART 4: MALACANANG OF THE NORTH

ILOCOS NORTE TOURIST SPOT | MALACANANG OF THE NORTH (Updated 2016)

Note: This post is part of my Ilocos Tour Series

That was 11:30 am when we finished the “Sand Dunes” experience. But instead of eating our lunch we have to proceed first to the Malacanang of the North so that we will be able to finish our itinerary.

One thing good about having a van instead of a tricycle is after our sand boarding when the heat was terrible, you can rest your body in the van comfortably with air condition. Of course, don’t forget to bring some snack items to munch while in transit.

Malacanang of the North

It’s a privilege to visit another structure that serves as a reminder of the Philippines not-so-distant past- the  Malacañang of the North or Malacanang ti Amianan in Ilocano.  The influx of tourist in the place is apparent with the structures outside the property selling Pasalubong items.

Malacañang of the North is a 5-hectare property that overlooks the serene Paoay Lake. The place used to be  the residence of late president Ferdinand Marcos and his family when they visit  Ilocos Norte during their regime. I can only imagine how beautiful the place was when it was still maintained by the Marcoses.

Malacañang of the North is one of the 29 houses that the Marcos Family  was able to build during their  two decades regime. As its’ name suggests, this house served as the official residence of the First Family during that time whenever they are in Ilocos. The Marcos extended their reception for their guests both local and foreign in this house. The house is made of all hardwood materials, like narra, mahogany, etc.

Malacañang of the North transformed into a museum of the late president’s memorabilia after Marcos was deposed in 1986 and died a few years later. Malacañang of the North is now managed  by the Department of Tourism, entrance fees are 20 pesos and 10 pesos for adults and children respectively. It opens from 9am-11:30am and 1pm-4:30pm daily except on Mondays.
