There is something about MassKara that makes you want to stop, watch, and simply enjoy the moment. The beat of the drums, the explosion of colors, the intricate masks, and the cheers of proud supporters come together to create the kind of experience that reminds me why Bacolod remains such a special place to celebrate culture and community.
And this year, Barangay Taculing rules the streets as the Grand Champion of the MassKara Festival 2026 Street Dance and Arena Competition – Barangay Category!
Bringing pride, passion, and a spectacular performance to the streets and arena, Taculing claimed the top distinction in a competition that showcased the talent, discipline, and creativity of Bacolod’s barangays.
For me, this is what makes MassKara so compelling. Beyond the grand performances and colorful spectacle are communities working together to create something that represents their identity and gives their fellow Bacolodnons a reason to celebrate.
Barangay Taculing Grand Champion | Rules the Streets
Taculing’s Grand Champion finish adds to an already impressive list of achievements. The barangay also won Best in Introduction, Best in Music, and Best in Theme and Concept, receiving ₱50,000 for each award. It further earned the Pocari Sweat “Be at Your Best” Award, worth ₱20,000 in products.
Personally, I appreciate performances that bring together creativity and execution. An impressive introduction captures attention, music creates the emotional pulse, and a strong concept gives the entire presentation meaning. When these elements work together, the result becomes more than a dance performance—it becomes a story told through movement, sound, and visual artistry.
Taculing’s multiple recognitions make its Grand Champion finish even more noteworthy.
Other Barangays That Made the Competition Memorable
Barangay Mandalagan secured First Runner-Up and won Best in Mask and Costume, celebrating the artistry and craftsmanship behind its presentation.
Barangay Handumanan finished Second Runner-Up and received the Casino Plus Choice Award, worth ₱80,000 in prize money.
Barangay Bata earned the Most Disciplined Contingent award, receiving ₱50,000 for its teamwork, coordination, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Meanwhile, Barangay Alangilan won the Merry-Making competition, with Barangay 6 placing first runner-up and Barangay Taculing finishing second runner-up in that separate category.
Each achievement deserves recognition. For me, a festival becomes truly memorable when different communities have the opportunity to showcase their strengths, celebrate their identity, and inspire one another.
More Than a Competition, a Celebration of Bacolod
As someone who appreciates the creative side of Bacolod, I see MassKara as more than an annual festival. It is a showcase of local talent, craftsmanship, community pride, and the ability of people to come together for a common purpose.
The performances may be judged, the awards may be announced, and the titles may distinguish the winners, but the collective effort behind every contingent is part of the bigger story.
From the intricate masks to the synchronized choreography, every detail contributes to the spectacle that attracts visitors and gives Bacolod its unmistakable festival atmosphere.
And from a tourism perspective, these are the experiences that make a destination worth discovering. Visitors do not simply watch a performance; they witness the creativity, energy, and community spirit that give the city its character.
