The history of Sinulog de Kabankalan started when the Sacadas from Aklan was employed by some Haciendas in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental as seasonal farm workers. It was said every January in timed for the AtiAtihan in Kalibo, Aklan these sacadas would cover their bodies with black soot and would dance in the street bring with them the image of the Sto. Nino. This tradition was picked by the fun-loving hacienderos and by the local government unit. But the name Sinulog was adapted in reference to the Sinulog of Ilog (another town in Negros Occidental) to which Kabankalan once a part of.

They really had great costumes. It must have been really hard to judge at Sinulog.
its more fun;)
Seems like it was a whole lot of fun! <3
When my friend posted on Instagram his photos of Sinulog, I was so envious because only M. Manila was suspended during the Papal visit and they took advantage of the no-work days to fly to Cebu. I would love to see the street dancers their. Hopefully next year. 🙂
awesome constumes they have there! It really shows how creative Filipinos are! must have been hard on your part judging the different Brgys who participated!
Hiiii! Enjoyed Looking at your pics. I just joined Sinulog Cebu, and have always wondered if it’s at fun down north (am I corrrect, north?). I’m hoping to see another version of Sinulog one day. Perhaps, next year? 🙂
