WHY VISIT DUMAGUETE CITY

Dumaguete City is the capital of Negros Oriental, located in the southern part of the Philippines.

The place is known for its various destinations which are popular amongst foreign and local tourists. These tourist attractions are some of the reasons why many Dumaguete Hotels are sprouting in the area. Its beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and diving spots are just a few of the must-see features of the place.

One popular area on the city is the Rizal Boulevard where locals and tourists can have a picnic or enjoy eating at restaurants nearby while having a great view of the sea. Jogging and strolling are also great activities to do while staying in the area. Lastly, for some old structure and history sites, The Dumaguete Belfry, The Siliman Hall, The Silliman University Library, and the Katipunan Hall are all part of the list.

UNIVERSITY TOWN

The educational program of Dumaguete is very popular and they have four universities and many colleges that offer a wide range of courses. Many students from nearby provinces and also foreign students choose to study in the city making the city occupied by a large number of students thus gaining the name of “university city”. Among the universities in the city is the Siliman University which is the first American university in the continent and the first Protestant university in the country. Established in the year 1901 and was granted as a university in 1938, Siliman is the oldest university in the city. It is a popular university for foreign students and presently, they have over 400 of them. Though it is a Protestant university, other religions are welcome as well, in fact, the majority of the students are Catholic and there are also numbers of Muslims. What makes Siliman University different from other universities in the country is that it has around 300 acacia trees, mountains behind and a sea at the front – all gives a natural environment.

Dumaguete City is also a jump-off point to many destinations in the country like Siquijor Island, Camiguin, Cebu, Negros Occidental and much more.
