Magnificent Cebu City – A treasure to behold, beckons
She has been dubbed several names – the oldest city in the country, Magellan’s Refuge – the Queen City of the South. All these names are appropriate for her and more – as she continues to beckon people from all walks of life to savor her treasures, which have and will continue to stand the passing of time. Yes, Cebu City is one of the cities that showcase the true richness of culture, forged through the passing of centuries, assimilating, evolving, continuously changing to the demands of society and the times. Just like a mysterious woman, she still holds enough mystery that enthralls people to flock to her shores to experience the beauty that she holds close to her heart.

As previously mentioned, Cebu City is one of the historically significant places in the country. It is the place that houses the oldest school in Asia- the University of San Carlos, formerly known as the Colegio de San Ildefonso. It is also the oldest city in the country what with it being renowned in the treaty of Cebu between Rajah Tupas and Spaniard Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. The oldest street in the county – busy and commercial Colon Street – still stands and is a testament to the resiliency of the city as well as its people.
The fabled Magellan’s Cross is also to be found in Cebu City which is quite significant since it signifies the start of the spread of Christianity in the country. Add to that the fact that the oldest Christian relic – the Santo Nino de Cebu – a gift to Rajah Humabon and Reina Juana – can also be found in Osmena Boulevard at the Basilica de Sto. Nino and you get the idea of how relevant and significant Cebu City has played in our storied history.

Walk the streets of Cebu and not only will you be charmed by the lilting Cebuano dialect that the Cebuanos speak with such a passion and pride you will also be bound to find such gastronomical delights that would surely leave you sated and satisfied. Follow your nose and indulge in the world-famous “Zubuchon” (Lechon de Cebu) – the crispy skin, the succulently tender meat, and the overall experience shall leave you speechless. The explosively flavorful taste of Zubuchon leaves your taste buds begging for more!
Let your ears bring you to the fabled side streets where you would be able to procure world-famous Cebuano guitars whose quality is unparalleled. Locals and international musicians swear by the musicality and the longevity of these instruments.
Indeed, there are so many Cebu Tourist Spots waiting for any guests. For those seeking adventure, well, the city offers some things that are definitely not for the faint of heart. The Crown Regency Hotel – also the city’s tallest building – offers a thrilling attraction that would surely test your resolve. The Sky Experience Adventures features an edge coaster ride which gives you a definite adrenaline rush as you get to be suspended (although latched on safely to the ride) to see the various city sights. It is about 429 feet above the ground and you can even tilt your seat another 55 degrees so you would have a more thrilling adventure. And if you still haven’t got enough of the thrills yet, you can try the Sky Walk which is a little less an adrenaline rush at 416 feet from the ground.

For those whose compunctions do not go to the extreme heights, then a quick getaway to the picturesque beaches and coastline of the Queen City of the South would surely lift your spirits up from the doldrums. The sand may not be of Boracay quality but the serenity that it would evoke upon you would definitely be worth the trip.
As we have said, Cebu City – the Queen City of the South – holds us enthralled not only by her enchanting “Cebu Tourist Spots” but moreover, by her ability to shift and change along with the times.

We have been in Cebu once and it has been years. Hubby and I need to revisit someday to reminisce our honeymoon. Thanks for the info.
Once again a very good list for places to stay while away from home, visiting interesting places.
I’ve been to Cebu only twice so I’ve tried only two hotels there. Can’t wait to go back and try the others. Thanks for this list, finding one will be easier! 🙂
I didn’t know that there are many hotels to choose from when visiting Cebu. Will bookmark this for future use and will recommend the page to my friends going to Cebu soon.
Ang dami, thanks for this! I’ll bookmark this for future reference.
This is very helpful especially when someone like me doesn’t know anything about Cebu and a list of all the hotels to stay is a huge help.
