Anda, Bohol: The Land That Moves Forward

We generally know the land as something of a static thing. Flatlands remain flat and the only thing that moves from them are the small particulates of sand and dust which are mostly negligible, if not for the keen eyes.

But what if there is a land which is said to move on its own, a municipality was named depicting such a notion? In Bohol, there is just that—Anda.

“Mystery” is Anda’s Middle Name

There is nothing really eerie going on in Anda, Bohol. This land at the southeastern-most part of Bohol does not necessarily have a life and wits to move about on their own. Although it is true that a certain area of this particular location never has its soil in just one place—thus the notion that it “moves”—there is nothing uncanny about it.

To cut the mystery short, the name was actually derived from the sea waves’ power to push the soil in a certain direction, inevitably forming a heap of sand dunes as a result. In fact, the word Anda was extracted from the Spanish expression “el Lugar anda,” meaning “the land that moves or walks.” Ergo, Anda would mean “it walks.”

It may sound like a bummer to know that the supposed mystery to this place is a gross exaggeration of a natural phenomenon in a beach setting, but Anda does not capitalize on it and is more than just its presumptions.

Quinale beach

The Quinale beach in Anda is a public beach with powdery sand gracing the shoreline. Unfortunately, maintenance for this beach is poor and you will always see brown seaweeds along the shoreline. There is no entrance fee for this beach but a lifeguard is readily available every day provided by the local government.

Anda: Home to Bohol’s Best Coast

If anything, Anda is more renowned to something more substantial such as having the beach with the finest white sand—the Quinale beach which was named after the town’s former name.

For an island-province which is surrounded by beautiful seawaters, making the claim that the Quinale Beach is best speaks volumes in what can be expected in this place. Among others, this might imply plant and tree growths common in a coastal setting, grainy white sands, and pristine waters.

But while the beach is more than enough reason for people to visit this part of a 5th-class municipality, there are other places around Anda that are in store for visitors, waiting only to be discovered:

Anda Water Caves

Anda, Bohol is a place for caves that have mostly water in them. Essentially the underground river, consist of pooled clear water which came from the mountains to the sea.

Anda Blue Heaven

A common go-to destination among trekkers who would like to climb Anda’s high elevations as well as its nearby villages. All-in-all, the whole trek would take 2 hours back and forth.

Anda Falls

When the beach water around Anda is already getting too salty, the freshwater of the Anda falls makes for a refreshing place to get wet. With a deep cistern at the base of the falls, it also makes for an alternative place for swimming.

Monument Commemorating the US “Liberators”

A tributary statue to the US forces which were given merit in keeping Bohol free from Japanese forces during World War 2.

  1. Wow I must admit I wouldn’t have considered staying at a place that is so far from the airport when travelling but it looks beautiful. I would definitely consider it in future, the views, the activities, it all sounds worth it.
