A Day at BenCab Museum: Art, Nature, and Culture in One Beautiful Place

Hey Happy Trip readers! Recently, I had the chance to visit the BenCab Museum in Baguio together with my friends Engiemar Tupas and Atty. Ariel Maglalang, and I’m excited to share this amazing experience with you. If you love art, nature, and a good dose of culture, this spot is definitely a must-visit when you’re in the area.

Getting To BenCab Museum

The BenCab Museum is tucked away in Tuba, Benguet, just a short 15 to 30-minute drive from Baguio city proper. We took a quick taxi ride from Baguio, which was both convenient and affordable (around PHP 80-100). If you’re feeling more adventurous or on a budget, you can hop on a jeepney bound for Asin Road from Baguio’s public market or City Hall for less than PHP 20. Just make sure you ask the driver or locals for directions since signage isn’t very clear on the route.

Admission and What to Expect at BenCab Museum

When we arrived, we bought our entrance tickets for PHP 150 each. There are discounts for students, seniors, and PWDs, and kids below 42 inches get in free—great news if you’re traveling with family! The spacious museum opens up to stunning views of mountains and greenery that immediately set a relaxed, inspiring vibe.

The BenCab Museum Experience

Walking inside the BenCab Museum, you’re met with an impressive showcase of art curated by the National Artist Benedicto Cabrera himself. His own masterpieces share the spotlight with indigenous Cordillera artifacts and contemporary Philippine art. One of my favorite parts was the Cordillera Gallery where traditional Bulol statues and tribal crafts tell stories of the local peoples’ rich culture.

But it’s not just about artwork. The museum’s architecture blends beautifully into the surrounding landscape, with open spaces and airy galleries that invite you to take it slow and savor every detail. Outside, the  Farm & Garden is a treat—a serene eco-trail filled with native plants, traditional huts, a coffee farm, and an aviary. It was the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature after exploring the galleries.

A Little History

The place officially opened its doors in 2009, born from the vision of Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera to preserve Cordilleran heritage and offer a space where Philippine art could shine. Living in Baguio for decades, he wanted a museum that’s more than a gallery—a sanctuary blending culture, creativity, and nature, and that’s exactly what visitors feel when they come here.

Personal Thoughts

Visiting the BenCab Museum with Engiemar and Atty. Ariel made it unforgettable. We were all touched by how the place honors indigenous traditions while showcasing vibrant contemporary art. It’s a gentle reminder of how important it is to keep our culture alive and to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us. Whether you’re a long-time art lover or just looking for a peaceful escape from city life, this museum offers a unique experience that feeds your mind and soul.

So when you find yourself in Baguio or nearby, do yourself a favor and add BenCab Museum to your itinerary. Trust me, it’s a happy trip you won’t regret!
