About Kabankalan City
Considered as a first class city, the City of Kabankalan located at Negros Occidental had proved itself worthy of recognition in terms of growth, governance, and tourism aspect. This is manifested by its 2nd rank when it comes to the highest gross and net income un the entire Negros Occidental. Also, it is considered as the 2nd most populous city in the province along with the 2nd largest city in Negros, next to the City of Bayawan. With a total of 32 Barangays, it is indeed a big city to explore. Heading here coming from Bacolod city will not be too much of a hassle since the travel time will only take about an hour if you are on your car, and about two hours if you will take the public transportation. If I may say, if you have ample time to explore the place, I recommend that you take public transportation. It may be a hassle in terms of transfers and the journey, but getting a glimpse of the real scenario on the way to the area is memorable and with the experience. As for the language spoken by the locals, Hiligaynon and Cebuano are widely used. More so, Filipino and English serve as their second language. Other parts of the place also speak the native language called Karol-an language. Due to the changes in language, it was observed that this native tongue has been decreasing as the years go by. So, people now are trying to maintain it and pass it down to the next generation, to avoid language extinction. There are a lot of beautiful places to visit in Kabankalan, and along with that, there are also a lot of festivities or celebrations that are worth witnessing. Currently, they have three festivities, the Kabankalan Sinulog which takes place 3rd Sunday of January, Charter Anniversary, and the Udyakan sa Kabankalan. Must Read: Kabankalan Travel Guide
Udyakan Festival
The Udyakan sa Kabankalan or also popularly known as Udyakan Festival primarily aims to encapsulate and promote to the world the beauty of the history, culture, tradition, and the place in general. Thus, a series of activities are carefully planned, prepared, and performed. This is just one of the things which the locals are serious about. When they prepare for the festivity, they give their best shot, and they make sure that they provide what is needed. At times, they even extend an extra mile to give the best of the best performances. The festival dances, the exhibits, lechon promotion contests, visit of well-known showbusiness personalities, and the night gatherings and parties are just some of the enjoyable activities that they prepare for the visitors. I experienced being here during their celebration a couple of years ago, and I can say that this is one of the most memorable festivities I ever attended. The warm feeling of being there and witnessing first-hand the activities merely is ecstatic. Indeed, the locals were able to show who they are and what they are capable of doing through the Udyakan sa Kabankalan Festival.
